Allyson & Ryan

Yesterday John & I threw a couples shower for Allyson & Ryan. We are very excited that they are getting married, so we threw them a party.

The shower was a tailgate theme. Allyson is UNI fan (she has excellent taste) and Seymour is an ISU fan (we all have our faults). Of all of the treats that I made I am most proud of my Panther and Cyclone sandwich cookies. They were delicious and full of team spirit.

UNI Game

Last weekend we headed to Drake to watch UNI kick some butt at basketball. I neglected to take photos of my UNI friends at dinner before the game or at Justin and Amy's after the game, but I did remember to take a photo at the game. It shows what a good job Justin does at getting tickets for the whole group.

Flooding and Biking

It has been a rainy summer so far. The rivers are up around Des Moines. When the rivers are up the trails are under water. A couple of weeks ago John, Foster, and I decided to bike to the tap even though my favorite way (the Bill Riley Trail through Waterworks Park) was under water. Normally I would avoid biking through downtown and on busy roads on the south side, but I had really cool new UNI bike socks and I wanted to try them out.

See! They say GO PANTHERS! on them. Wouldn't you want to ride?

It was a fun ride. We rode slow so we could catch up. When we got to the tap we split a couple of pitchers of Boulevard and some salted nut rolls (my official candy of riding bikes).

Foster tried on my sunglasses and proved that he can pull of any type of sunglasses.

It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I hope it cools down enough to get out again this weekend.

Maker Monday: week 18

This week I finished my UNI socks. I love them.
I will be wearing them every time I wear a UNI shirt. That means I'll be wearing them about once a week. Thank goodness they are machine washable.

I'm going to work on other projects this week. I have a cowl OTN, but I'm beginning to wonder if I have enough yarn to finish it. It's a quick and relaxing knit, so if I have to frog it I won't be too upset.

Sweet 16!

Last Saturday we headed out to help our friend Seymour celebrate his birthday. It was nice to get out and help him celebrate. He's a really nice guy who has the most awesome girlfriend ever (my dear friend Allyson).

Allyson is part of my UNI game watching group. For us Saturday was about more than Ryan celebrating a birthday. It was the day that UNI beat Kansas! It was an amazing game to watch and I am so excited to be a part of Panther Nation.

Sporty Saturday

Last Saturday I spent the day as a sports fan.  UNI was in town playing Drake, so the UNI group got together to go see the game.  We met at AK's before the game, as it was a central location (and they have Bloody Marys).

We upped the number of purple shirts significantly as we entered the bar.

After the basketball game we headed over to Justin's for some beer and snacks.  I couldn't stay too long, as I needed to get ready for my next sporting event.

Saturday night I went to my first Iowa Chops Hockey game.  I can't say enough about my distaste of the team name.  The lost the game.  I'm pretty sure it's because they are named after a cut of meat.

Even if they did loose, and I hate the name, it was still a wonderful time.  Monica was there, and I always enjoy catching up with her.

After the game I headed home to bed.  I like sports, but two sporting events in one day is incredibly tiring.
